Laxative Foods
The Best Options for Laxative Foods
The best cure for constipation is eating laxative foods. If you were to ask someone how many bowel movements a day they should have they probably don’t know the answer to that question. This question is nothing to be ashamed of or silent about because this is how the body cleanses itself on a daily basis. When your body isn’t cleansed on a regular basis, this is when illness and other problems begin.
One of the best and most available laxative foods today is the apple. Apples are extremely high in fiber, and they are low in calories so they work great for anyone who wants to follow a low calorie diet. Many diets for weight loss suggest eating an apple a half hour before every meal. This is great advice for weight loss, but it works equally well for those who need better or more frequent bowel movements.
Laxatives are not the answer, but yet many doctors prescribe them. The problem with laxatives is that they cause patients to become dependent on them when used on a regular basis. This is just the same as using recreational drugs. Anything that the body has become dependent upon is a problem, and just because it isn’t a recreational drug it doesn’t make it okay to use. The best way to solve the problem is by using natural, laxative foods.
If you like fruit, the second best laxative is pears. Pears are very high in fiber and low in sugar. Like apples, there are many types of pears. When going to shop for produce you will see pears that are green, pears that are brown, and some that are even red in color. Each of them has a different flavor so it’s best to try them all and choose for yourself, but it’s a great source of fiber for you without having to worry about calories too.
There are many different types of fruit to choose from, but you can also eat a variety of vegetables too. Cabbage is one of the best laxative foods available today. In addition to the fact that it’s high in fiber, it also has sulphuric compounds which is cleansing to the body. If there are toxins building up in the intestinal tract the cabbage will work great to rid your intestines of the toxins while doing its job as a laxative.
Nuts are also a great source of laxative foods. Raw almonds are usually best because they are high in fiber and very low in fat. They are a good source of Omega 3 fatty acids so that is a good fat, but don’t eat them in large quantities as they are high in calories. Soy nuts are good to choose from too, and because these are so low in fat and calories one serving can equal up to a full cup. Soy nuts are crunchy, very slightly salty just enough to cure that craving, and they are low in fat so you can eat more of them. These make a great snack for adults and children and are in high in fiber. This is a great solution when your children are having constipation problems. Don’t let the doctor prescribe harsh laxatives or enemas. There is no need for such a harsh method when the laxative foods are readily available to all of us.
Last but not least, coffee and chocolate are extremely helpful and can also lift depression. Both naturally have caffeine but they are very helpful to stimulate the bowels. Caffeine naturally stimulates the bowels, and with coffee there is virtually no caloric content when you drink it black. With all of the varieties of coffee, there is sure to be a flavorful choice out there for you. When it comes to chocolate, usually dark chocolate is recommended, and with just a small piece of chocolate it will not only stimulate the bowels, but it can also lift your mood.
